'Pedal to Plough'

London to Paris and Home

The Result... Updated 29 July 2019

Success! All six riders reached the Eiffell Tower at lunchtime on Monday 15 July. The team safely returned home by Thursday having ridden 301.6 miles, slightly higher than planned because we got lost a few times. It was a wonderful experience.

Our thanks to everyone who has supported us so far. If you haven’t yet clicked the Donate button to pledge £5 (or more) there is still time. The current total raised is in the region of £8,800 or so which is a brilliant achievement, but not enough to buy the tractor.

The Challenge

Six intrepid cyclists with an average age of over 60 will leave London on 13 July to ride to Paris and home again, a distance of nearly 300 miles, in support of Let Them Shine's goal of buying a tractor.

The Money

The local economy focuses on farming. Most families own some land where they grow maize and sunflowers. Mechanisation is developing, but very slowly. There is a big demand to rent a tractor and plough to relieve the enormous manual toil. We are raising money to buy a tractor and plough for the centre. Not only will this generate an excellent income it will have a significant impact on life in the wider community. The cost of a New Holland tractor & plough is about £17500 and we need your help.

All proceeds raised will go to purchase the tractor. The riders are paying all their own personal travel and subsistence expenses.
